Description
This is an excellent high quality 8” x 10” black & white newly reproduced photo of a 194os WHITE large WA Series pulling a TALBERT REMOVABLE GOOSENECK TRAILER, owned by BESL TRANSFER CO. of Cincinnati, OH, hauling a large MANITOWOC Series 2000 ‘SPEEDCRANE'.”SAMPLE” will not appear on your photo, it is only on the scanned image.
DESCRIPTION: This White was most likely a WA-2864, one of the larger trucks in the WA series. With its heavy winch behind the cab and the rigging on the front of the trailer gooseneck, this White could lay its Talbert trailer on the ground as it removed the gooseneck from the trailer, for over the front loading/unloading. With the big 24.00 tires on the rear, this Talbert was probably rated at 50-ton or more. The long-boom Manitowoc was most likely from the post WWII era. I’m told that this was a Manitowoc 2000 Series crane.
WHITE WA SERIES: The WHITE WA Series was introduced in 1941, eventually being replaced by the WB Series, and then upgraded to the WC which was in production into the 1960s. The WA Series was the first of a wide variety of conventional trucks & tractors ranging from small delivery trucks to large over-the-road tractors. They all featured a common cab design from 1936 created by the famous industrial designer Alexix De Sakhnoftsky. The WA had no vent windows in the door, the cowl air scoop was not hooded as on the WB, and the cab was framed in wood. A friend of mine drove a wooden frame WA White ... he was glad to have it rain since the moisture caused the wood frame to swell and stop the doors from rattling.

Eventually becoming known as the ‘cadillac’ of crane manufactures,. The company remains one of the few crane manufacturers left manufacturing in the USA, and is among the most highly respected crane manufacturers in the world.
