    Description

This photo is an excellent high quality 8” x 10” black & white glossy new photo reproduction of a WATSON BROS. TRANSPORTATION CO. early/mid-1950s PETERBILT Diesel Model 350 COE Tandem-Axle Tractor with Sleeper Cab pulling a BROWN Aluminum Semi-Trailer, parked in front of a Watson Bros. Transportation office/terminal.
”SAMPLE” will not appear on your photo, it is only on the scanned image.
DESCRIPTION:  The Model 350 Peterbilt was introduced in 1949 in both conventional and COE models.  The first two COE units were built with truss frames and a square KW-style nose.  In 1950, 41 of the round-nose COE’s were built, with a total of 300 Model 350 COE’s being built into 1957.  The 350 COE was basically replaced with the Model 351 COE in 1955, but both styles were built for several years.  The 350 COE in this photo has the oval Peterbilt logo, while the first ones built still used the old square Peterbilt logo.  This Peterbilt was leased to Watson Bros, and had a long western wheelbase with double fuel tanks and sanders in front of the drive axles.  The 350 COE had a tilt cab, opening to a forward 90º angle, secured by 2 steel cables from the frame to the rear of the cab.  The front sheet metal below the curved hood, had a full-length piano hinge that allowed the front sheet metal to raise up, and the fenders were hinged at the rear to easily swing open, permitting access to both sides of the engine for complete servicing.  The 87-1/2” wide cab was mounted 16” higher than the conventional, and had a small removable ‘dog house’ protruding back into the cab.  The BBC on the sleeper version was 96-1/2”.  By 1954, Peterbilt eliminated the skirted fenders on the conventionals, that had been around since 1939. This photo has a white border on all 4 sides.
