VTG Homer Laughlin Amtrak National Pattern Railroad Dining Car Mug Cup Lot of 2

Description

Up for sale is a pair of vintage vitrified china mugs or cups made by Homer Laughlin. Their pattern is called Amtrak National and was exclusively made for Amtrak Railways. According to some online research it was used from 1975-1980 I believe. They were made in the USA and are from their "Best China" line that was geared towards hotels, restaurants, and other parts of the hospitality industry. They are an off-white in color with an almost country blue band at the top with a thin gray line. Their style is short and squatty with a single finger handle. They are pre-owned, but in good condition. They do have some light surface scratches and a few transfer/bump marks from use & cleaning on a moving train. One of them does have a small chip that measures 1/16" and some flea bites around the base. It's handle also has a dark line that looked to be a defect. I could not feel it with my nail or the edge of a straight razor blade, so I believe it is a firing defect. It does not sound like a crack either when tinged. Both of them have a date code of TC-111 on the backstamp. According to restaurantwarecollectors.com that dates them to March of 1979. They stand 2½" tall, have a top inner rim diameter of 2¾", an outer rim diameter of 3¼", and hold 6 Fl.Oz. to the top. The single finger handles have an inner diameter of 3/4". I did include a pic I found on the Amtrak History site for description purposes only. It is not included. Overall they would make a great addition to anyone's collection.
