    Description

Vintage letter/cigarette case brass circa 1939 Worlds Fair stamped
An amazing piece from the 1939 New York World's Fair. This piece is a 'Lettercase' brass cigarette case designed to look and act as a letter. Rumor has it it was used by wives during WW2 to hold prized letters from husbands from overseas. Maybe some. This case is addressed and stamped from 1939. It is addressed to David Lerman, Syracuse, NY and has a 1939 World's Fair stamp on it. (The owner of Lerman Carpet in Syracuse…a wholesale carpet manufacturer.) The stamp shows a little wear. This piece is well marked on the cigarette bar with the designer's name, Harry Richman. On the other end is a letter shaped box divided into 4 triangles and the letters H, R, N, Co. in each quadrant. It also has Lettercase over Trademark over Pat Pend Made in USA. the piece is solid brass and opens like an envelope with room inside for cigarettes or cards or letters. It is in very good condition considering it’s age. It is 5 1/2 inches by 3 1/4 inches in size. A rare and unusual find.
