Description
This very stately and beautiful 1945/46 AM/SW/aux input radio has a boldness about it. Known as the "American Overseas" model, its walnut cabinet is almost in perfect condition, with one damaged area on the bottom left front corner as can be seen. Other than that, it is practically flawless. It is a six tube radio with great reception, sensitivity and selectivity using the internal loop antenna. It also has wide range tone control to provide a rich and warm tube sound foryour
preference. As well, it has an auxiliary input (RCA - 1/4") to allow the use of your modern devices - MP-3, phone, etc. There is also a terminal for an external antenna wire if needed, especially for improved SW reception. And of course as with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. Please check the reviews on other radios I have restored and sold.
The cabinet was stripped of the original finish, keeping the original stain. It was then nourished, rejuvenated and balanced. The bottom trim was redone in dark walnut to match the original.
The entire cabinet was given eight coats of clear lacquer with outstanding results.
From the factory, it has only the one speaker on the left side. The matching grill clothes were replaced. The dial face is perfect and pleasantly illuminated by two lights. It also displays the knob functions. The original dial cover was polished. The original knobs were polished. The back cover/antenna assembly is in good condition. The power cord was replaced, using the original plug. New felt pads were added to the bottom as replacements for the originals.
Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with
all
paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were tested and replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the internal loop antenna.
This handsome and desirable WWII era radio is now 76 years old and looking almost like it did when new. And, now that it is completely restored, it sounds like it too! It will continue to bring reliable enjoyment for many more years if well cared for. It is an wonderful addition to a collection or as a gift for someone to cherish. Dimensions: 16x10x8”.
This radio will be packaged very carefully for shipment and may be double boxed if needed to best protect it. It will have packing materials placed between the chassis/tubes and cabinet to reduce the risk of tube displacement or damage during shipment.
The buyer must remove those materials prior to use.
The seller will instruct the buyer on how to accomplish this after the radio has shipped.
Buyers should note that tube AM & SW radio reception can often be very negatively affected by florescent, LED and other lights, even those in another room. It can also be affected by FAX machines and other devices. If you are having reception interference, try turning off those devices and check for improvement.
Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced.
The tubes in this radio are in good
working order.
The seller cannot guarantee the length of time before a tube will need to be replaced. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off.
