    Description

    This is a Quechua woman’s sash or
    faja
    worn over the skirt at the waist. The sash has three design bands, two
    of which contain multiple birds resembling ducks, several abstract sun bursts and a female figure (cholita), separated by a large central band of abstract geometric shapes and several llamas.
    The bold central band dominates with an amazing display of enigmatic patterns split in magenta and yellow color.
    These anthropomorphic, zoomorphic, and geometric patterns are typical of Andean tapestry work and often tell complex stories of the interactions between the artisans and their natural environment. The decorative bands are reversed on the opposite side, magenta and white become white and magenta, etc. The colors range from dark red, orange, indigo, yellow, magenta, to white. This is a very personal and expressive weaving.
    Dimensions are 6” wide x 42” long, less the ties. Ties are 7” and 24”.
