Description

Neoclassical sterling silver ewer. Made by Tiffany in New York. Ovoid body, helmet mouth and spout, leaf-mounted and capped reeded scroll handle with grape-bunch terminal, short flanged stem, and domed foot. Body encircled with military frieze depicting horsemen and helots on stippled ground. Tooled leaf-and-dart bands. Same stylized on lower body. Fully marked including director's letter M (1873-1891) and pattern number that appears to be 8483, which was first produced in 1885.
