MACHINED BEZEL, MOTOR RATED SWITCH, AND SS COVER PLATEUpgrade to a better off-on switch for your vintage Delta Unisaw Junior.
The
Delta Unisaw Junior
table saw was produced in 1949 through 1951. Many of the Junior saws had nothing more than a simple toggle switch mounted in a dimpled aluminum cover.
A lot of Juniors pass through our shop during the restoration work we do on vintage Delta equipment. More and more we am seeing these Junior toggle switches and cover plates cobbled together to keep the saw functioning. A typical photo is included, showing three dimple plates and attempts to install switches that might fit.
In the last few months, we started manufacturing a complete new cabinet for the Delta Unisaw Junior, because the sheet metal cabinets that Delta manufactured do not hold up. From that effort, we have developed a uniquie bezel and switch assembly that can also be used on any of the OEM cabinets that had only the simple toggle mounted in the switch plate.
This offering is for a CNC machined billet aluminum bezel, a motor rated Pass Seymour brand toggle switch, and a reproduction switch plate.
The Pass-Seymour switch is the same modified switch we have been selling for years as a replacement to the obsoleted OEM full size Unisaw, HD shaper, and cast iron base unit ball toggle switiches. These toggle switches are 115V single pole switches, that have had the mounting brackets modified to fit the offset required for this application. The switches are available with either a red or limited availability gray toggle. You must state which color you want shipped at the time of order.
Th
e switch plate is one of our reproduction stainless steel replacement plates, silk screened with the black Delta Mfg. logo.
You can read more about the replacement switch and the switch plate on our other eBay listing sites.
The bezel is key to the retrofit. It is a custom designed 1/4" thick piece of 6061 aluminum plate that surrounds the switch and accepts the conventional size switch plate.
To retrofit your saw, you need only to connect the two power wires and a ground wire to the new switch, hold it in position centered in the original cabinet cutout, and install the bezel. The bezel mounts with two included stainless steel 10-32 screws into the existing holes in the cabinet and pinches the toggle switch between the cabinet face and the back of the bezel. Then simply install the switch plate using the tapped holes in the bezel.
The switch, even though only pinched between the housing and bezel, is really secure. It has no clearance to move up or down and the switch plate controls any side to side drift. All in all, this is a very easy retrofit and fix.
