Description
SOUTHERN PACIFIC RR c1950 SILVERPLATED ICE TONGSThese silverplated ice tongs were made for the Southern Pacific Railroad by the Victor Silver Company. They are 8” long and have a sharp SP winged sun logo on the side. The Victor mark on the inside has “651” underneath it. While that would usually be a pattern number, in this case it may be the date of manufacture. The tongs are in excellent condition. The plating is better than the photos but Victor did not turn out the highest quality silverware and this piece is indicative of that. Still it’s a rare SP dining car item, probably dating from the 1940s-1950s. Buyer pays .00 shipping. If you are interested in railroad dining car items, be sure to check out my book “Silver in the Diner,” a guide to dining car silverware. The book has a wealth of information on the history of dining service on American railroads. See www.silverinthediner.com.
