Young men are expected to weave and to create their own patterns displayed on guapas. This is a large guapa which is used for making food. The Ye'kuana grind down the yucca root to a pulp and then use the flour to make a flat bread that is cooked over a fire, or, often dried in the sun. Basketry is an intricate part of their daily life and is also among the finest functional art. Men weave several types of baskets, with the guapa basket being best known for designs that are rooted in folklore and cultural tradition.
