Description
If you do restorations on early Philco radios, you need this set of Philco service tools. The set includes a 1/4 inch plastic nut driver for aligning 1930 to 1936 Philco radios that have trimmer capacitors with a 1/4 inch nut. The nonmetallic tool will not detune the RF and IF circuits or short out the B+. The large handle makes it easy to precisely adjust trimmers. Also included are a set of tools for restuffing bakelite condenser blocks. This set includes a wire cutting tool and a punching tool for pushing the insides out of the bakelite blocks. This is how to use the condenser block tools. In most cases, there is no need disconnect the wires from the block. While the block is still bolted to the chassis. Use the cutter tool to cut the wires where they pass through the rivets. One twist on each rivet will quickly and cleanly cut the wires, see photo number 7. W
hile the block is still bolted to the chassis, use your heat gun to heat the block. Try to concentrate the heat on the sides of the block, photo 8.
Use the push tool to push the old condenser out as far as the chassis will allow (the block is still bolted to the chassis), photo 9.
Remove the screw and roll the block. Then using the push tool, push the old condenser the rest of the way out of the block, photo 10. Once the old capacitor has been removed, clean solder from the terminals and install a new capacitor. That's it! These tools will make a dreaded job, a job you will look forward to.........well, almost! If you are not completely satisfied with these tools, return them for a complete refund, including shipping. Colors vary. I also sell the alignment tool and the condenser block tools separately, check my other listings.
