The Dish/Plate measures 8" across the handle and is 7" wide.
Made by Palin Thorley a master potter from England for the Williamsburg pottery this piece is in excellent condition with no dings or cracks and the glaze is in great shape too.
This is a highly collectible white creamware leaf tray. It is richly detailed with sculpted grapes and leaves.
It was created by Joseph Palin Thorley, a noted ceramicist who began his work as an apprentice at Wedgwood and came to Williamsburg after the 1937 restoration.
This dish is entirely handcrafted in the manner of the circa 1790 English creamware original.
In 1937 J. Palin Thorley was invited by The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation to create reproductions of a few select pieces, representing pieces & fragments unearthed during the restoration.
He moved to Williamsburg, and in a small studio, employed true 18th century techniques to create creamware replicas.
His work was scheduled for a major exhibit at the Milwaukee Art Museum in 2008.
