DESCRIPTION: This 1935 FORD ‘SPECIAL SERVICE CAR’ owned by CALIFORNIA CONSOLIDATED WATER CO. distributed ARROWHEAD SPRING WATER and CALIFORNIA’S PUREST ‘PURITAS’ DRINKING WATER. It appears as if the truck just came out of being painted at Burke and McKenzie, Auto Body Finishers.
1935 FORD: The 1935 Ford 1-1/2 Ton truck was known as their Model 51. The 1935 Ford trucks had been totally restyled from the 1934 line, but were still powered with the old reliable flathead V-8 85-hp engine. The Ford hood emblem was mounted in the center of the side hood louvers only in 1935, being moved farther forward in the 1936 model year.
ARROWHEAD SPRING WATER: Was discovered in the San Bernadino Mountains, getting its name from a natural rock formation near the spring, that was shaped like a giant arrowhead. In 1909, The Arrowhead Springs Company was formed, with their water products marketed in Southern California. The water was transported from the springs to Los Angeles in glass-lined railroad tank cars. In 1929, Arrowhead merged with the company that marketed Puritas water that had first been introduced in Los Angeles in 1894. The two brands were bottled in the same plants and co-marketed until the 1970s.
