Description

This is an excellent quality professionally reproduced 8” x 10” black & white photo with a lot of detail of a ca. 1954 AUTOCAR Model DC10364S pulling a 50-ton ROGERS lowboy loaded with a MANITOWOC 3000 Shovel, both owned by the former LATROBE CONSTRUCTION COMPANY of Latrobe, PA. My original vintage photo is an authentic Autocar company photo, that I obtained from an estate sale. Date of the photo is unknown, but from the photo number compared to others in my collection, I would judge it to be from 1954.
“SAMPLE” will not be on your photo, it is only on the scanned image
.
DESCRIPTION:  This factory photo has the specifications of the truck below the photo: Model DC10364S on a 171” wheel base; Driver Cab; Cummins NHRBS diesel engine; 8041 main transmission with an 8031C auxiliary; SFDD 4600 Rear Axle; 27462 Front Axle, 11.00/24 tires.  With a 50-Ton ROGERS Lowboy and MANITOWOC 3000 2-Yd. Shovel #S-7 weighing 70-Tons. Owner: Latrobe Construction Company, Latrobe, PA.  Information supplied by the White Motor Company, Pittsburgh, PA.
LATROBE CONSTRUCTION: I’m not sure when Bruno Ferrari Sr. started Latrobe Construction Company, but it was most likely in the 1920s. They grew to become one of the largest and most respected heavy construction companies in PA, and builders of many, many miles of highways in that state. In the boom years of the 1950s into the 1980s, their equipment was ‘the best’ and often the ‘biggest’ available’. They operated a large fleet of Autocars, Brockways and Macks ... many with the front bumpers painted in the black & white diagonal stripes as shown in this photo. Bruno Ferrari Sr. died in July of 2000 at the age of 98. Some of his equipment was sold outright and the balance was auctioned off on October 5, 2001.
ROGERS BROS. Corp.:  Rogers of Albion, PA, has been building trailers to haul equipment since 1905. The company states that you’ll see Rogers trailers in all 50 states and 65 countries around the world. Rogers arched-gooseneck trailers of the 1920s and 30s were fastened with rivets, and often had an axle with solid rubber tires under the gooseneck to facilitate towing.  The Rogers trailer in this photo appears to be a detachable gooseneck, double drop deck lowboy with large 11.00/24 tires on the rear ... a very  heavy duty trailer for the 1950s. The Rogers company appears to be alive and healthy at this time.
