This photo is an excellent high quality 8” x 10” new Black & White photo reproduction of  a late 1940s-early 1950s LaPLANT-CHOATE TS300 Motor Scraper.

DESCRIPTION: This LaPLANT-CHOATE TS300 Motor Scraper has just just picked up its heaping load of fresh dirt in what appears to be a winter-time construction job in Ohio. Spare cable rolls are mounted on the rear of the scraper bowl. Contractor was the former D. R. Smalley & Sons Construction Co. of Celina, Ohio. In a 1951 LaPlant-Choate magazine ad that I have, D R Smalley & Sons was listed as a ‘repeat user’ of LaPlant-Choate Motor Scrapers.
LaPLANT CHOATE:
The LaPlant-Choate Manufacturing Co. was founded in 1911 by E. W. LaPlant and Roy Choate to produce house moving equipment and stump pullers in Marshalltown, IA, later relocating to Cedar Rapids, IA. In a 1948 magazine ad, it stated that LaPlant-Choate made a popular line of “hydraulic & cable-operated dozers, 2- and 4-yard pull scrapers for track-type and rubber-tired industrial tractors, cable-operated scrapers in 6-, 8- and 14-yard sizes for all makes of track-type tractors.” LaPlante-Choate as acquired by Allis-Chalmers in 1952.
