Description
Welcome toAntiques & Moore!
This listing is for a lovely Arts & Crafts Period Sterling Silver syrup or milk jug with hand hammered body. This nice jug was hand crafted by silversmith Karl Leinonen in Boston MA during the 1920's-30's and has faint signs of the hand hammering texture in the silver. The jug has a classic slender shape with curved spout and handle with a lift lid with thumb-hold. The hinge is tight and the lid opens and closed smoothly. Marked with the trademark stamp used by Karl F. Leinonen and "Sterling, 61". Karl Leinonen was the head silversmith at the Handicraft Shop, an independent silver shop in Boston and registered his name as his trademark in 1901.
Measures 5" high, 4 3/8" wide (spout to handle) with a 2 1/8" diameter base. W
eighs 265 grams.
The silver has nice original patina and is in very good to excellent Estate
condition. The only flaw we found was a small no-harm dent on the bottom edge that is only noticed when handling the jug (see photos) otherwise reflecting only minimal signs of normal wear.
