Japanese Kamakura-Bori Hand Carved Lacquer Plate Marks 博古堂後藤斎宫(1841-1912) Rare. This gorgeous plate is made by Hakkodo, the oldest manufacturer of this craft in Kamakura. The Goto family has been carving for 29 generations, 後藤斎宫 is the one of early carvers, very famous and well known in Japan as well as around the world, most of his artworks was collected by museums and galleries, and hardly find in the market. The plate was artfully carved from Katsura timber, then lacquered in several layers. After a month of drying, it was polished to bring out its beautiful pattern. The plate is in pristine condition, 9.25”diameter, 1.5”high, has the artist’s stamp on the back, due to the age, it looks not very clear, need an magnifier to find it, same image shows in last photo .
