Description
Ko Imari Shochikubai-mon and Tako Karakusa Dish mid 18CA molded dish with an upturned rim decorated in underglaze blue with a central Shochikubai mon representing Three Friends of Winter. The center is framed by a border of scrolling waves, uzunami, and a stylised lotus arabesque of so-called octopus scroll form.
The reverse is decorated with a band of stylized Lotus vine, karakusa, and the four character fukichosun mark (1868-1912).
This antique hand painted dish is in good condition but not in perfect condition; here is a run down of the things to note:
- A crackled appearance due to crazing of the glaze and some discoloration - see photos
- Some dark speckles, like grains of sand, on the front under glaze from manufacture, firing in kiln
- 1 or 2 approx 1" long hairline cracks extending from the rim down toward the center dish but only 1" long, no gaps, very tight hairlines
- A little warpage - not quite flat - very old and hand made, so beautiful signs of work done by anscestors
7-1/2" in diameter
Approximately 1" tall - shallow
A beautiful and intriguing pattern to decorate with or to use in your everyday life - it is a good size for a small salad, a sandwich, a piece of cake etc.
