DESCRIPTION:  I don’t know the location or the date of this vintage photo, but it’s most likely in the late 1940s/early 1950s. On the right is an INTERNATIONAL TD-18 with a fixed push-block pulling what I believe is BUCYRUS-ERIE cable-operated scraper, while on the left is an INTERNATIONAL TD-24 with a reinforced fixed push-Block pulling a LeTOURNEAU scraper.
INTERNATIONAL TD-18: The TD-18 was introduced in 1938 to serve the growing construction market. It was International’s largest track-type tractor at that time. Offered with both a 62” standard gauge and the more popular 74” wide gauge. It was powered with International’s 6-cylinder 88-horsepower diesel engine. It’s engine started on gasoline for easy starting, converting over to diesel when it was warmed up. The TD-18 saw widespread use in WWII in France and the pacific. An upgraded TD-18A was introduced in 1949 with engine and track frame redesigns, being produced until 1955. More redesigns were introduced in 1955 and 1956. During its 20-year continuous production, International-Harvester produced approximately 38,000 TD-18s.
INTERNATIONAL TD-24: International launched their TD-24 crawler tractor in 1947 as the new ‘heavyweight’ of the earthmoving industry. At that time it was the world’s largest crawler at 180-hp. It soon earned its reputation as an outstanding heavy-duty crawler, a perfect prime mover for the pulling large scrapers. One of its best features was its hydraulically controlled 2-speed “planetary power steering” which permitted turns with power to both tracks. The TD-24 with its updates remained in production until 1959 when its power had increased to 203-fwhp.  When paired with Bucyrus-Erie scrapers, they were known as “The Big Red Team”,
