Giant, Rare Art Deco 1936 Emerson Model 104 Tombstone Radio in Ingraham Cabinet!

When I came across this set years ago at a yard sale in western Maine, I was dazzled not just by its beautiful design but by its sheer size: At 21.5”h x 17”w x 12”d, this is one of the largest tabletop radios you will ever see. It’s an Emerson model 104, an 8-tube, 3-band set from 1936, and as you can see, there’s just so much here to appreciate in addition to its size. To start, there’s its gorgeous case, one of the finest ever designed by Ingraham, the company that made so many of the cabinets for which Emerson radios of the 1930’s are famous. Then there’s its beautiful dial, surrounded by art deco escutcheon; it’s lovely original grille cloth; it’s stunning gold dial; and those charming wooden gumdrop knobs. In short, this set has all the features that draw collectors to high-end sets – and then some.
It's also a very rare set; this is the only one I have ever seen in person. The cabinet, as you can see, is in very fine shape, as is the chassis, and I had long planned to restore it and display it proudly in my living room, but I never found the time, and now I’ve run out of space, so I’ve decided to pass it on to another collector who will finish the job and enjoy it for many years to come. If you’ve always wanted one of these but never thought you’d find one (much less one in such fine restorable condition), this is your lucky day. You may well never come across another one anywhere. Having received, over the years, some items that did not survive shipping, I always take care to pack very carefully.
