This is an outstanding high quality 8” x 10” black & white new photo reproduction of a GARRETT FREIGHTLINES  INTERNATIONAL LD-405 or RD-405 COE pulling doubles from 1957.
”SAMPLE” will not appear on your photo, it is only on the scanned image.
DESCRIPTION:  My original photo of this 405 Series INTERNATIONAL was represented to be a 1957 model. In the background a Garrett Kenworth sits at the loading dock door.  As you can see, these 1950s LD & RD-405 cabs sat very high, because of the flat floor in the cab - no doghouse. Cummins HRB-600 diesels were the most popular power at that time, rated at 200-hp. The fenders were hinged to swing out for easy access to the side of the engine. To work on the top of the engine, the passenger’s seat and floorboard could be removed in less than a minute.
HISTORY OF THE INTERNATIONAL 405 SERIES:  International’s new Emeryville, CA, plant had started production in 1947, to build a new style western-type truck designed for western trucking.  Built with a conventional L-Series cab with a short rounded hood through 1952, then a with the R-Series cab from 1953, these 405 Series were the early predecessor to the famous “Emeryville” DCO-405  COE that ruled the highways in the late 1950s/early 1960s.
GARRETT FREIGHTLINES, INC.: Advertised as “The Oldest Major Motor Carrier in the U.S.A.”, the company was founded by Clarence and Oscar Garrett in 1913. One of Garrett’s major contributions to the trucking industry was the development, installation, and use of the diesel engine in trucks in 1933. By 1961 Garrett routes stretched some 13,600 route miles. Major acquisitions expanded the Garrett system to the point that they operated 67 terminals in 10 western states in the 1960s, taking great pride in its road fleet for over 3500 units. After 65 years of continuous service, Garrett, together with Graves and Associated became part of the American Natural Resources Company (ANR System) in 1979.
