CARRYALL Scraper.

DESCRIPTION: This early CATERPILLAR D8 Crawler is pull loading an early LeTOURNEAU Carryall Scraper on an Ohio highway construction job in the late 1930s/early 1940s. Contractor was the former D. R. Smalley & Sons Construction Co. of Celina, Ohio.
CATERPILLAR D8: The world famous Caterpillar D8 began its history  as the Diesel 75. In 1935 the RD8 was introduced. By 1937 the “R” prefix was dropped and the D8 debuted, still to be produced today. In 1941 the 8R Series began production, powered with the Caterpillar D13000 diesel engine that produced 113-drawbar horsepower and 131 belt horsepower. Later in the 1940s the 8R was replaced by the more powerful 2U series, and was continuously upgraded every few years to the huge elevated sprocket D8’s of today. My memories of the Caterpillar D8 are the D8H of 225-270 horsepower that was produced from 1958 until replaced by the D8K in 1982.
CONDITION: This photo has been printed on excellent quality HP PREMIUM PLUS GLOSSY PHOTO PAPER using HP 02 Vivera Inks, producing a professional quality photo that resists fading over 100 years ... the best money can buy. This full 8x10 photo has a narrow white border on all 4-sides.
