Antique 1932 Philco 71X Radio - Restored

I am excited to offer this unique 1932 radio for sale.
It was not an uncommon practice for Philco to combine components used in other models. The 71X is such a radio. The cabinet is identical to the 43X and 91X of which 3 distinct models were built, one with an arched control panel, one with 4 columns, and this one.
Technical data: It is a 7-tube unit with a single 10 1/2” speaker on an inclined sound board, and a shadow meter (code 125 chassis) for tuning. The tone control is also 4-position, unlike the 2-position of the code 121 and code 221 chassis. This is not a “Frankenradio” but was designed by the factory. It is unknown how many of this model were manufactured with this unusual chassis. But with only 950 of the 43X made… By comparison, there were 14,675 of the 91X manufactured. There is almost no info available on the 71X.
This radio has a book-matched burl walnut control panel, with intricate inlay on the other front walnut surfaces, and maple inserts. The combination of these woods and inlays shows the craftsmanship of the Philco manufacturing team. I took a certain amount of liberty in deciding the various toners and stains used in order to better enhance the beauty of this cabinet.
As with all my radios, the chassis has been completely gone through. The tuner was removed, cleaned, and re-lubricated. All capacitors (except a few Mica) have been replaced, as well as all out-of-tolerance resistors, and all bad wiring. I took the time to re-stuff all of the original bakelite capacitor blocks to maintain originality. The tubes were checked, and any weak ones were replaced. The radio was then re-aligned to factory specifications, and receives stations all across the dial.
The cabinet was stripped down to the original patina, re-stained, and various shades of Mohawk toner were applied. It was then given 10 coats of nitro-cellulose lacquer, and finally, after 2 weeks of curing, it was hand-rubbed with natural beeswax.
Disclaimer: Because the radio itself, and the mechanical features (dials and dial related parts, push buttons, etc.) are over 80 years old, I cannot guarantee their functionality. Everything will work, however, when I ship it, unless otherwise specified. But any future malfunctions or failures are beyond my control. As such, I can only guarantee that the radio worked before it was shipped. No other guarantee applies, and no refunds will be given.
This radio measures 41” tall, 26” wide, 15” deep, and weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 lbs.
I will not ship this radio. It is for local pickup only, or you may arrange to have it picked up, crated, and shipped to you by a company similar to “Craters and Freighters” (which has picked up my radios before), or one of the several antique couriers available.
