    Description

This photo is an excellent high quality 8” x 10” full color new photo reproduction of a CROUSE CARTAGE COMPANY 1973 WHITE-FREIGHTLINER WFT-5164T with a DROM BOX pulling a 1974 TIMPTE 40’ Reefer.
”SAMPLE” will not appear on your photo, it is only on the scanned image.
DESCRIPTION: This restored 1973 White-Freightliner with its Drom box, pulling a 40’ Timpte Reefer was being displayed at a recent vintage truck show, part of the George Crouse Collection. The WFT-5164T is powered by a Cummins V-903, Fuller transmission, and carries an 8’ Drom Box with side door. The 40’ Timpte has a working Thermo-King reefer unit. Unfortunately the complete unit was put up for sale in early 2015 as the George Crouse Collection was being sold by private sale.
DROMEDARIES: By adding the 8’ Drom Box to a tractor, -more than 400 CF of cargo space, and some 1500-Lbs of extra freight could be added to the load. The Aluminum 8” Drom Box was located behind the cab and forward of the fifth wheel, still keeping the overall length for tractor and semi-trailer, well below the legal highway limits in the western states. Standard doors in the rear permitted loading while the tractor was unhitched through a specially designed ramp as well as a side door on the right side.
HISTORY OF CROUSE CARTAGE COMPANY: Started in 1941 by Paul Crouse in Denison, IA after working as a company driver for several other trucking companies. With 4 trucks and 5 employees they operated between Des Moines, IA and Omaha, NE, Sioux City, IA, and about 60 small towns in between. Service was daily and overnight. Paul’s 4 sons joined his expanding business, growing to 1100 employees in 1998, and servicing 15 states in the Midwest. George Crouse  became President in  1987 when his father was killed in a car accident. In 1998 the Crouse family sold a very healthy, financially stable truck line. But George was soon to be back in business as Crouse Transportation Services in Carroll, IA, hauling perishables in all 48 states.
