    Description

This photo is an excellent high quality 8” x 10” glossy black & white new, sharp & clear, photo reproduction of a 1949 INTERNATIONAL W-4064 ‘WESTCOASTER’ Tandem-Axle TANK TRUCK and Full-TRAILER taken in front of the BEALL TANK plant in Portland, OR.
“SAMPLE” will not be on your original ad, it is only on the scanned image.
DESCRIPTION:  This INTERNATIONAL WESTCOASTER W-4064 is posed in front of the Beall Pipe and Tank Corporation factory in Portland, OR, in late 1949. What makes this truck so unusual, is that it was special ordered with the ‘older’ narrower 2-man cab from the KB Series, instead of the ‘new’ wider 3-man Westcoaster cab being built at that time.  The I-H Westcoaster truck has been fitted with a Beall petroleum tank, and is pulling a California-style Beall petroleum tank trailer.  Interestingly, this very Westcoaster tank truck and tank trailer, from a rear-end view, was on the

web page until Beall was merged into Wabash National’s Walker Group Division.
INTERNATIONAL WESTCOASTER:  In 1947 at the new Emeryville, CA, plant, production was started a large western-type model with GVW’s up to 90,000-lbs, including off-highway models.  The new W Series or “Westcoaster” had a wider cab, flatter V-type windshield, flat radiator, and fenders without skirts.  Two gasoline and three diesel engines were offered, with a large variety of transmissions and wheelbases.
BEALL CORPORATION:  John S. Beall moved from Texas to Portland, OR, in the early 1900s, and in 1905 founded Beall & Company to distribute road building equipment.  In the early 1920s the company expanded into the manufacturing of steel water pipes and petroleum storage tanks, and the name was changed to Beall Pipe & Tank Corporation.  John E. Beall and G. Franklin Beall, nephews of the founder, joined the firm in 1924-25.  In 1928 the company began manufacturing truck tank and tank trailers for the petroleum industry, later adding logging trailers and lowboys to their product line. Beall became well known for their functional design, premium quality, and automotive styling.  A larger plant was built in the 1950s, and plants were added in Billings, MT; Boise, ID; Denver, CO; and Oakland, CA.  Some of the Beall innovations include:  the first frameless semi-trailer tank; the first successful aluminum truck tank and pull trailer; and the first all-aluminum single gate bottom dump.  Four generations of Bealls have lead the company, which now has 5 factories ad 11 sales branches, and has become a major exporter.  Beall employees proudly affix the American flag logo on each trailer built today, as an expression of their pride.  Sadly, Beall Corp. filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection in 2012, and was subsequently merged into Wabash National’s Walker Group Division.
