Description
This photo is an 8” x 10” black & white glossy new photo reproduction of a HENDRICKSON BROS. 1947 MACK ‘LF’ Tandem-Axle Dump Truck, Fleet #132. Valley Stream, NY.”SAMPLE” will not appear on your photo, it is only on the scanned image.
DESCRIPTION: In 2008 I obtained a vintage snapshot of a Hendrickson Bros. Mack dump truck, marked on the back: “Walter Fowler Sr. on his new truck Summer 1947”. Mr. Fowler is sitting behind the wheel, but the photo is so dark that his image can not be fully seen. The snapshot has been enlarged to a full 8x10 photo. It is borderless on 2 sides, with a wide white border on the top and bottom showing the edge of the original snapshot. This photo is a little “dark” and does not show as much Mack detail as most of my other photos … but is still a nice memory of this Hendrickson Brothers’ LF Mack No. 132.
HENDRICKSON BROS. INC.: Located in Valley Stream, NY on Long Island, the company was founded in 1922 by three Hendrickson brothers. As Long Island grew, so did the company, at one time ranking in the top 50 largest contracting firms in the nation. Milton Hendrickson became president of the company in 1953, taking the company to new heights as a road builder. Milton was recognized as ‘Citizen of the Year’ in 1974 by the NY State Society of Professional Engineers, and in 1980 received an Award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Construction’ by the MOLES. Associated companies included McLain Dock & Stone of Port Jefferson, NY; Nassau Docks of Cedarhurst, NY; and Rason Asphalt, Inc. of Glen Cove, NY. Hendrickson Bros. built much of the Long Island major highway system. Milton Hendrickson died in the mid-1980s, with no children. Milton’s brother John and his sons kept Rason Asphalt operating, but the Hendrickson Bros. company was sold in the mid-1990s.
THE MACK LF: The Model “LF” was the smallest of the L Series, usually equipped with the 510-cid Thermodyne gasoline engine. Some LF’s were used for light construction work. Most LF’s were used for highway applications, and achieved instant success as highway tractors. Some 12,453 were built between 1940 and 1953, with most of them built after 1945 due to WWII war time production.
