Model 444-A.
Early post war compact radio.
Restored inside and out.
Excellent condition.
Up for bids is a 1946 Arvin model 444-A white metal table radio.
Manufactured by Noblitt-Sparks Industries in Columbus, Indiana and introduced in January 1946, the Arvin model 444-A is a 4 tube set covering the AM broadcast band.
Offered in several colors, this version appears to have been repainted several years ago.   There are a couple of light blenishes to the finish but nothing that stands out.
It was restored to working condition about 12 years ago by a fellow collector.    The set has a new antenna wire attached but you'll need a lot more length to get really good reception.
The set powers up with no issues and received several stations, especially strong local signals, loud and clear.
Dimensions of this great looking radio are: 5 1/4 inches tall, 6 1/2 inches wide and 4 inches deep.

This style of Arvin radio was one of the first available to the public after WWII and was so popular that between February and May 1946, the price for both the model 444-A (white) and the 444 (brown) were increased by nearly 20 percent!!!
In February the 444-A was selling for 10.55 and the 444, for 10.40.   By May the 444-A was 12.95 and the 444 cost 12.85.
A fine example of capitalism at it's greediest (er.. best).
