    Description

This photo is an excellent high quality 8” x 10” black & white glossy photo  reproduction of a BUCKEYE CLIPPER Power Shovel being hauled on a lowboy trailer, pulled by a big 1945 DC100T AUTOCAR owned by CONTE BROS., Heavy Haulers.
”SAMPLE” will not appear on your photo, it is only on the scanned image.
DESCRIPTION: This Autocar factory photo taken on December 6, 1945 features Conte Bros.’ DC100T Autocar Diesel and single axle lowboy trailer with 8-tires across, hauling a BUCKEYE CLIPPER Shovel.
BUCKEYE CLIPPER: Manufactured by the Buckeye Traction Ditcher Company in Findlay, OH during the late 1930s and 1940s, perhaps even into the 1950s? They were a ‘full revolving convertible’ excavator when not all the machines of that era were. The Buckeye Clipper could be fitted as a shovel, trench hoe, crane, clamshell, dragline, or pile driver. They were made in 1/2, 5/8, and 3/4-Yard sizes. Their advertising claimed to have a ‘Metered Vacuum Power Control System’ which controlled all operations of the machine. A 1937 ad stated “Swing brake sets automatically; Rotation  stops without reversing the swing clutch; You can swing, travel and hoist simultaneously; with the handiest and most comfortable cab on any excavator.”
CONTE BROS.: I know nothing about Conte Bros. other than they were a Heavy Hauler with a PA PUC number. If you know of them I’d appreciate hearing from you.
