Description
1944 Recall, the yearbook of Western Military Academy. Western was a private military preparatory school located in Alton, Illinois. Founded in 1879, it closed in 1971. This 191-page hardback contains photos of the students and faculty, sports teams, clubs and other organizations, plus a review of the school year. Among the more notable students was senior Jack Quinlan, who played football and baseball and was an announcer at many sports events. A native of Peoria, Illinois, Quinlan went on to become the radio "voice" of the Chicago Cubs. He covered the Cubs first on WIND (AM) from 1955 to 1956, then on WGN radio from 1957 to 1964. His broadcast partners were Hall of Famer Lou Boudreau and Cubs legend Charlie Grimm. Quinlan was killed in an auto accident during spring training of 1965. This book is in good condition overall. Cover is intact but spine is getting loose on the inside. Quite hard to find and has local advertising in the back. See pictures for details. Great reference for history or genealogy.
