Description
This photo is an excellent quality 8” x 10” black & white newly reproduced glossy photo of a 194os MACK Model LMSW-M Off-Road Six-Wheel Dump Truck used in the 1940s at the Grand Coulee Dam, on the Columbia River in Washington.”SAMPLE” will not appear on your photo, it is only on the scanned image.
DESCRIPTION: This heavy duty MACK LMSW-M Six-Wheel dump truck is dumping a load of material in the 1940s. My original photo is a vintage Mack factory photo, with the serial number of the truck printed faintly (unreadable) in the lower right corner of the photo. The symbol on the door of the truck appears to be that of the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation, owner of the dam. Perhaps this truck was used during the 1940s to maintain portions of the project. “Grand Coulee Dam, Wash.” is imprinted in black in the lower left corner of the photo, most likely by Mack Trucks. This 8x10 photo has a white border.
GRAND COULEE DAM: is a gravity dam on the Columbia River in Washington state. Constructed between 1933 and 1942, its original two power plants were built to provide hydroelectric power along with area irrigation. A 3rd power station was completed in 1974. It is the largest electric power-producing facility in the U.S.
HISTORY OF THE LMSW-M MACK: The LM Mack was the heaviest duty model in the Mack line during the 1940s. Most had an offset cab, as this truck does, and had many characteristics of off-highway vehicles. Mack built 2,391 Model LM’s between 1940 and 1956. LM’s were powered with either the big 707 Thermodyne gas engine, or Cummins diesels. The designation “SW” indicated

ining or similar applications.
