James Kent (Longton)CRIMSON GLORY
9-7/8" Dinner Plate
Dark Pink Roses, Bright Yellow Center, Green Band
I love this vintage James Kent dinner plate. It's been sitting on a shelf in my office for 20 years, and is as bright today as the day I found it. The pattern is called "Crimson Glory," with decal dark pink roses around the broad rim, framing the brilliant yellow center. There is a narrow green band around the yellow center (verge).
The plate measures 9-7/8 inches across the scalloped rim.
This vintage plate is in good condition, with no chips, cracks, or crazing that I can see. The decal design is very colorful and intact, as is the yellow center. The yellow has faint signs of utensil wear, but no deep gouges or scratches. The gold trim around the outer rim is somewhat worn (see closeup photos of the rim).
The plate has a gold mark on the underside for "16 | James Kent Ltd. | Longton | Made in England " "Crimson Glory" | 4071." I believe the Longton mark and the "England" (rather than United Kingdom) dates this plate to the 1940s, or possibly earlier. (See thepotteries.org for more info about James Kent marks.)
