Up for bids is a very nice looking 1939 Stromberg-Carlson wood table radio model 400-H.
Its a 6 tube, AM band receiver.   Note the unique AM dial scale frequency nomenclature using Megahertz instead of Kilohertz!
I can't imagine why Stromberg-Carlson did this but I am sure someome has the answer!  Probably a marketing ploy.
This nice example of the Stromberg-Carlson 400-H has been refinished.
The gold dial is stunning and gives the impression of the sun rising.
The tenite composition knobs are original but I don't think the grille cloth is.   The dial bezel (also made of tenite) has a small crack in the upper left corner and one bezel screw is missing.  The original Stromberg-Carlson decal is missing.   Reproductions are available on the web.
There are no cracks, chips or other veneer or cabinet issues.
The chassis was electronically restored to good working condition by its  previous owner.  The newer dial lamp is good and bright.
Reception and quality of sound is best when using a long external antenna but in using a short antenna wire during daylight hours, I was able to pick up over a dozen stations on the AM band.
The sound quality is rich and full partially due to the two position tone control.  From left to right the controls are:    Volume, On/Off/Tone control and tuning.
As it may have been several years since this beautiful radio was serviced, it is highly recommended that a qualified technician give this set a "once-over" before it's enjoyed on a regular basis.
Dimensions of the 1939 Stromberg-Carlson model 400-H radio are:  9 1/16 inches tall, 14 1/2 inches wide and 7 3/8 inches deep.
