Sugar tongs spoon in the 1852 TUSCAN pattern monogrammed:
" Steamer Western World " on the side.
This is an exceptional museum quality piece of railroad, steamship and Great Lakes history.
The Steamer Western World and Steamer Plymouth Rock were launched in 1854 by Michigan Central Railroad for service between Buffalo and Detroit. I currently have a number of pieces from the Steamer Western World, the Steamer Plymouth Rock and also the earlier Steamer Mississippi. These were the finest steamers on the Great Lakes, each costing 0,000 in 1854. The dining hall could seat 200 and the original silver service for each ship cost ,000. The Tuscan pattern was patented in 1852 and was likely chosen as a modern pattern for the new ship.
I will be listing separately pieces from the Steamer Western World, the Steamer Plymouth Rock and the Steamer Mississippi, all exceptional and rare pieces of Great Lakes history.
Piece measures just over 6&1/4 inches.
Piece is in excellent, near new condition. There are some slight nicks and scratches otherwise piece is in excellent condition.
Piece will need to be thoroughly polished when buyer receives it.
